Altisensi - Philosophy for Creativity promotes projects to encourage the natural learning curve of the child (communication, sociability, affection, wonder, curiosity, play, creativity, research, exploration). The objective is to develop an identity that harmonizes and balances the body, mind, and emotions encouraging a congruence between feelings, thoughts, words, and behaviour. The aim is to create an awareness of one’s unique identity, opened to the other and the different, to the new, to the possible.

Altisensi projects are designed for children aged 4-13. The standard in-class proposal is a 12-week project divided into 12 one-hour long sessions in class, in addition to workshops dedicated to teachers and parents.

The project aims to educate each child to think independently, creatively, and critically, and to take the time to ask philosophical questions fundamental to human nature (existential, political, ethical, moral, ecological...). The goal is to habituate the child to reflect on questions without using prefabricated answers, taking time to consider and come up with personal solutions without relying on external notions that affect way of thinking, being, acting.

The idea is to encourage students to take time to listen to each other and to let them express themselves, each in his/her own individual way. This allows for growth through cooperation instead of through altercation and competition.

To this end, the project leader aims at creating a familiar and welcoming space, where authentic listening is possible and each child feels free to express his/her inner world while sharing experiences, ideas, thoughts, dreams, emotions, feelings, and imagination.

Creative thinking is the medium through which the group is able to get to know itself, sharing and growing together and finding their own unique way through the freeing power of their own words. We take care of the students’ creative thinking as it allows them to find their own exclusive path in their ways of thinking, being, and acting. A creative mind is flexible and open to new knowledge, makes connections, and adapts to unexpected events. An unleashed mind is able to find new ways of solving problems, while recognizing, accepting, and appreciating differences. And the child has more fun. Moreover, failure becomes an opportunity to learn, to embrace infinite possibility and the unknown, and to anticipate events and develop unique and useful ideas.

We aim to stimulate language in order to enrich thought capacity and increase the child’s ability of expression and engagement. Sharing ideas helps the students expand the range of their vocabulary: words are the building blocks with which dialogues are constructed. We challenge them to look for the meaning of new words and to explore more in depth the meaning of already known but unclear terms. Students will then have the tools to understand and live reality more profoundly in order to be able to change it creatively.

We dedicate special attention to social and relational aspects, encouraging empathetic and cooperative behaviours, so that the pupils can develop their individual identity through dialogue with their classmates. The participants improve their self-esteem and learn to communicate their individual thoughts, knowing that the others will listen. This new freedom promotes their ability to express themselves sincerely. They learn to listen and comprehend different points of view, to respect the time and the way of expression of the other, and to be part of an atmosphere in which each person feels comfortable voicing his/her thoughts and feelings. All of these steps build self-assurance.
